In 1994 the Master Plan for Mountain House was approved and construction started in 2001. The Master Plan for Mountain House consists of 12 distinct neighborhoods housing 44,000 residents. Each neighborhood will have a distinct and unique character. The community will possess a Town Center, designed to be a commerce hub for the community. Offices, retail shops and boutiques will be within walking distance of homes. It is anticipated that it will take 20 years to complete the Master Plan.
Fostering a welcoming community feeling was a priority while planning Mountain House. Each neighborhood is expected to have its own elementary school, park, and commercial area for local businesses - all within walking distance. Recreational areas play an important role in the community. Every house is within a half mile of a park and there are bicycle paths throughout. It is this type of planning that nurtures the charming neighborhood sentiment of yesteryear. Strolling through the quaint streets of Mountain House, one can’t help but feel as if one has stepped into the past.
